Fashion District Puts Top Talent on Display with “Sidewalk Catwalk”

June 25, 2010
by

In an effort to revitalize interest in New York’s iconic Fashion District, The Fashion Center Business Improvement District (BID) and sponsors Macy’s, LF USA, The New York Times, and HP have teamed up to create an intriguing public exhibit. Sidewalk Catwalk, as it’s called, puts mannequins on display along Broadway from June 24 to September 3.

This is no run-of-the-mill quirky art exhibit, though. All of the mannequins are outfitted by A-list fashion designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu, and Diane von Furstenberg, in apparel made from local fabrics – some from local elements (like seashells). All together 32 big-name designers pitched in to make Sidewalk Catwalk a riveting aesthetic display.

Will it accomplish its goal of revitalizing New York’s City’s Fashion District? That remains to be seen, as the crowds along Broadway aren’t noticeably bigger. But plenty of those who do pass by have stopped to examine the mannequins’ eccentric outfits along the way.

    Hello,
I had seen an advertisement for these wonderful prints. I only want to purchase prints without being framed. Do the note card come with multiple prints in each box?

Hi Claire. Thank you for your comment! This event wasn’t actually hosted by us, but if you’re looking for prints of the photos taken from the exhibit I would recommended starting your search with the Fashion Center BID link at the end of the article.

One more thing, if you are referring to items at our store, note cards come with a single image per set. Conde Nast Store prints come in three sizes, and can be purchased either framed or unframed- however you would prefer!
